I have been asked to evaluate a network for security threats and provide solutions for the company.
Log On – If there is no log on to the network this means that anybody can access it and do anything to it. There are 50 different users that can access the network because of the no log on to it. They can damage it, delete files etc. it is highly recommended that a log on is put on the network and only certain individuals should know the details to log on.
Internet (Unrestricted Access) – if there is unrestricted access to the internet this means that any user can go on any website and this will then result in viruses, time wasting during work, and not doing your work to your best as this will distract people to social network and look at their favourite websites.
Staff Install & Remove Software – if the staff is allowed to install software they could download illegal software and also cause viruses. They also could use up loads of memory on the computers by downloading stuff not relevant to their work and the company. If a member of staff removes vital software he or she could be in trouble as this would waste company time by reinstalling the software on the machine.
Data Backed Up Once a Month – Data should be backed up EVERY DAY not every month because anything can happen at any time. Someone can delete files by mistake and they would lose all their data. Backing up data is essential if you carry out many tasks in work or college etc. so it is recommended to do it as often as you can.
Data Tapes – Data Tapes should be kept in a secure place and not in a plastic box on top of the server where anyone could access them and lose them or delete them. Also if there was a fire in the building you would lose everything so a fireproof box would be a good source to put them
Data Information – if a company has information on you this is to be protected from getting in the wrong hands as this is part of the data protection act and only your details should be used for the right purpose. If a company gives out your bank details to another person and they get caught they will get a big fine, or possible even a jail sentence. This is a serious crime and shouldn’t be overlooked in any kind of way.
IP Address Log – there is no IP Address Log which means every site a employee has visited wont be tracked and this means that they can go on any website without the employer finding out.
No Firewall – if there is no firewall on the computers it will be easier for hackers to get onto your machine and put viruses on it. Hackers can put different kind of viruses on your computer and also find out bank account details.
Downloads – downloads aren’t monitored so this means that any employee can download any kind of software illegal or legal and this might cause the company a big fine depending on the software. Also there would be viruses on many websites that are dangerous and suspicious which anyone can get access to as well.
Entrance Doors – the entrance door of the building aren’t protected by a keypad this means that anyone can go in the building and steal important information and also steal things. For example all the data that is backed up on discs they can get stole and that would cause a lot of work to be removed.
